Better Outcomes

Nurses work hand in hand with other health care staff members to produce the best possible patient outcomes. Our labs, set up to simulate a clinical situation, allow you to practice determining the best course of action for the patient and then delegate tasks and communicate accordingly.

Not only do these activities let you demonstrate your skills in a contextual learning environment, but they also foster critical thinking and improved clinical judgment. Because of your extensive hands-on training, you’ll be highly sought after. 100% of our nursing majors are offered a job or are accepted into graduate school.

Selective Program

Applicants for the direct-admit BSN Program should apply for admission to Florida Southern College and select Nursing as their intended major; a separate application is not required but admission is competitive.

The BSN program selects students with the highest academic profiles who we feel will be most successful in our rigorous nursing curriculum. First-year nursing students average a 3.76 high school GPA, 26 ACT, and 1240 SAT.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for entry into the BSN program? What are the academic requirements to remain in the nursing program?

The BSN program at FSC is competitive and selects students with the highest academic profiles who we feel will be most successful in our rigorous nursing curriculum. First-year nursing students average a 3.76 high school GPA, 26 ACT, and 1240 SAT. If ACT or SAT scores are not available, students may take the TEAS exam at home. Visit admission requirements for additional details.

An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for progression in the major. Students must achieve a grade of C or higher in all required coursework for the nursing major. Standardized testing is used to monitor student progress throughout the program, and students must pass a final exit examination to meet BSN major graduation requirements.

If I didn’t enter Florida Southern College as a nursing student, can I join the program?

Occasionally, there are opportunities for students who are already enrolled at Florida Southern to apply to the program. They must follow the procedures outlined in the current FSC catalog, part of which require a written essay and a meeting with the nursing program director during the November month of their first semester. To be considered, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and completion of prerequisite coursework.

Are transfer students eligible to apply?

Due to the direct-entry nature of the program, which fills all available slots at the beginning of freshman year, generally, there is no opportunity for transfer students in the nursing program.

Can I apply to the nursing program if I come in with college credit or an A.A. degree?

The nursing program curriculum is designed for direct entry, with nursing courses beginning in the first year and continuing sequentially for four years. Students entering Florida Southern with substantial college credits are encouraged to select a minor to enhance their education over the four years.

I was not admitted the direct-entry nursing program. Is there another option for enrollment at FSC?

We strongly encourage you to consider joining the Florida Southern College community with a different intended major. FSC offers other options for students who have an interest in working in the healthcare industry. Graduates of our Exercise Science program are prepared to move on to graduate programs in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Exercise Physiology or enter directly into the workforce through the strength and conditioning concentration. If you plan to enroll at Florida Southern College, please speak with your Admission Counselor about changing your intended major. Your Admissions Counselor can be reached at the Office of Admissions at 863.274.4131.
