Secondary Education

You will be fully prepared for teaching in the 21st-century.

If you're hoping to share your passions with middle school and high school students, then look to our Secondary Education degree.

You will take courses in your subject area — English, math, biology, social sciences — and education courses to prepare you for the classroom. While building expertise in your discipline, you will become a master of curriculum development, instruction, and classroom management.

Top Reasons

Be Prepared

Students will work hands-on with middle and high school students in the subject area of their major beginning the first semester enrolled in education courses.

Individualized Attention

You will receive personal attention to your particular goals and have easy access to faculty expertise.

ESOL Option

Secondary English Education majors have the option of obtaining the State of Florida ESOL endorsement upon graduation.

Engaged Learning

Our partnership with Polk County Public Schools provides a wide array of clinical experiences. There, an experienced teacher will guide you in integrating educational theory and research into real-world classrooms with middle and high school students. You will also work hands on at the Roberts Academy, our elementary and middle grades laboratory school located on our campus.
