Bachelor of Arts in
Religion

Examine Religion in ways that teach you how to think deeply and critically about your faith.

Religion has played a significant role in our lives since the beginning of time. Along with marking important life events, it encourages us to think critically about the meaning of life and our role in the world.

Your B.A. in Religion will provide you with a balanced and challenging curriculum. Along with courses in the traditional areas of Biblical studies and Christian theology, where you'll examine sacred texts, rituals, and ethics within the Christian tradition, you'll also be encouraged to round out your coursework with minors in art, language, and philosophy or even pursue a double major. You’ll be prepared for further theological study as well as church-related work and a variety of other careers.

Dr. Waite Willis, Jr.
- Religion Department Chair

Teaching is the heart of the matter — a process of transforming students and professors into persons possessing knowledge, wisdom, critical reason, and moral judgment, all proved in the life of care for others. Using enthusiasm and humor, moving around, calling students by name, encouraging discussion, teaching compels students to engage in the classroom, department lounge, and my office. Teaching is forming relationships with students, as we discover new ways of life and being in the world.

Religion Major Quotes

My time at Florida Southern has not only prepared me for, but actually given me an advantage in, the academically rigorous and competitive environment of graduate school. Rather than beginning with the typical introductory course work at graduate school, I was able to begin immediately with advanced, upper-level seminars and research programs.

Christopher Corbin ‘09, M.Div. Student, Yale Divinity School
