What stands out to me most about the program is the way that the small size allows for many performance opportunities and one on one attention from the professors, while the innovative guest artists and challenging ballet and modern choreography pushes us to be more well-rounded and competitive artists.

Being a part of the FSC Dance Program has been easily one of the best choices I could ever make; I’ve been pushed so much further in not only my technique and movement, but the intellectual aspect which ranges from how the body works, all the way to the history and evolution of dance as an art form. This program is filled with so much talent and strength, I can lean on my friends and professors for endless support and motivation.

The curriculum is inclusive of all styles of dance and I feel very lucky to have learned about so many different ways of moving. There are many opportunities for choreography and performance in the program, especially because we get more individualistic instruction compared to larger schools.  Everyone has the ability to choreograph and express themselves in a supportive environment with a community of like-minded peers.

Performance Opportunities

Beginning your first semester, you will have many opportunities to participate in a variety of concerts, showcases and stage productions, and you will make valuable professional contacts by participating in festivals, workshops, master classes and auditions. The Dance Program produces two main stage dance productions each year featuring the dance majors and minors. Fall Into Dance is held in the fall semester and features experimental faculty and guest artist choreography. The Spring Dance Concert includes an abbreviated historical ballet in the first act while the second act highlights faculty and guest artist choreography. Additionally, FSC dancers have also performed at multiple national and international festivals and showcases, including Your Move: NJ Modern Dance Festival, the American College Dance Association Southeast Festival, and the Inside/Out series at Jacob’s Pillow.

Student choreographers have many opportunities to present their work including the Emerging Artists Showcase, the BFA Concert, the American College Dance Association Conference and with various events sponsored by the FSC Dance Organization.
