My teaching philosophy centers on the fact that I teach students how to learn. Specific facts will change during their careers, so I prepare them for a lifetime of continual learning. My classes at Florida Southern feature a lively atmosphere of discussion and engaged learning. I also foster student interaction with the accounting profession through my involvement with professional organizations such as the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
With my degree, I was able to start full-time with an accounting firm. Just three and a half years later, I've had two promotions.
The MBA program focuses on engaged learning with the students. We were encouraged to really get to know our peers and to work with one another. Furthermore, professors understood the need for a work/life balance and they were flexible as needed.
With my degree I have been able to work in multiple fields within the healthcare industry. Most recently, it has allowed me to move quickly up the career ladder by focusing my skills in a distinctive way through the pharmaceutical world.
I’ve been to Asia on business many times, but traveling to Vietnam and Hong Kong as part of the MBA’s international field experience — having those interactions with the other students and the professor — was a fantastic opportunity.
When searching for an MBA program, FSC became the prime candidate for me because of its hands-on approach, variety of course options, schedule flexibility and was a great option for an international student like myself. The program not only gave me a wealth of knowledge, but I also gained valuable real-life experience through activities, such as competing in two case competitions, presenting a downtown revitalization plan to the city of Lakeland, and participating in an entrepreneurial directed study. I highly recommend this program!
FSC has a strong partnership with local businesses, creating coursework with an emphasis on live cases. I appreciate that FSC focuses its academic curriculum around real-world business issues. This approach adds purpose beyond the classroom.
With a few years between my MBA and today, I feel I notice the benefits of the program more than ever. I realize now how I analyze processes and really question the "why" behind projects.
Our teams and professors were so understanding. It’s like a family at Florida Southern, so despite the program being rigorous, it was still manageable. All of your professors and teammates foster your success by pushing you to be your best.
