Carrie Skaggs, MSN, FNP-BC
Instructor of Nursing
I believe nursing education must bridge knowledge, clinical reasoning, and compassionate practice. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the conviction that students learn best when they are actively engaged, intellectually challenged, and supported within a safe environment. I view my role not simply as a content expert, but as a facilitator of clinical judgement. Nursing students must move beyond memorization to synthesis, prioritization, and application. Integrating unfolding case studies and real-world clinical correlations in the classroom help promote deeper understanding while strengthening clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. I intentionally integrate educational technology to prepare students for a rapidly evolving healthcare field. My goal is to graduate nurses who are clinically competent, ethically grounded, and prepared to lead with confidence and compassion.
Biography
I am a family nurse practitioner and nursing faculty member with 25 years of nursing experience. I have taught across a variety of nursing topics, and I am passionate about preparing students to be safe, competent, compassionate nurses. Originally from Pennsylvania, I have called Florida home for the past 10 years. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and relaxing on the beach with a good book.
