Meet Our Scholars

Natalie McGinniss

Natalie McGinniss

Natalie McGinniss was looking for a college that combines engaging experiences with academic reward. Her search lead her to FSC, where courses did not follow traditional lecture formats, but were instead taught through an interactive professor-student small-classroom setting.

“Professors provide outside learning activities and whole group discussions for students to better understand the material.”

Throughout her time at FSC, Natalie, an environmental science major, is comforted by the fact that she is able to connect personally with faculty and peers, which has helped her excel academically, emotionally, and socially.

About the Christoverson Scholarship

Dr. Marcene Christoverson has an inspiring story of breaking through traditional roles and rising to the top of the business world. Not only does she have a 25,000-square-foot building named after her, but one of our most unique scholarships is also named after this leader and influential woman.

A native of Boise, Idaho, Dr. Christoverson joined the U.S. Navy as a WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II. She became a photo engraver following her discharge and then, through a Navy friend, got a job as a bookkeeper for a direct-mail firm, St. Johns Associates, Inc, in the Bronx, N.Y. As time progressed, she climbed the working ladder and became chairman, president and CEO of the company. Her company is recognized as the leader among women-owned businesses and received the “Bridges to Success Award” in 2000.

As an expression of Dr. Christoverson’s belief that the nation’s future is dependent on the effectiveness of higher education and graduates who are prepared, this scholarship is awarded to exemplary students in addition to any merit-based scholarships they may receive enabling them to pursue their studies free of economic encumbrances. This competitive award is awarded to first-year students and additional application materials are required.
