Outdoor Recreation

Explore Florida with your classmates!

The FSC outdoor recreation program offers students a variety of fun outdoor activities, such as bicycling, horseback riding, kayaking, and rock climbing.

The Outdoor Recreation program at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center offers fun, day-long expeditions to Florida State Parks, natural attractions, and recreational facilities like Florida’s natural springs, indoor rock climbing facilities, the Ocala National Forest, east and west coast beach trips, and more! With multiple trips per semester, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore the great outdoors.

Due to COVID-19 all Fall 2020 Activities have been postponed until spring. Please check back for more details and Spring 2021 activities.

Kayak Tours

Bioluminescent Kayak Tour- September

During the warm summer months the waters of the Indian River Lagoon come alive with Bioluminescence. Every moment produces light! Tiny dinoflagellates make the water come alive and speeding fish become underwater fireworks. Then, huge schools of flying mullet make your evening one you will never forget!
Registration begins August 26th @ 6am. There is a $10 refundable deposit due at registration.
Trip Date: September 1st

Rock Climbers

Indoor Rock Climbing - October

Join us for our annual Indoor Rock Climbing trip. We will be traveling to Vertical Ventures in Tampa! Trip will include transportation, rock climbing, and dinner.

Registration begins: January 16 @ 6am.
There is a $10 refundable deposit due at registration.

Trip Date: October 3rd 5-7pm

Learning to Surf

Learn to Surf- October

Surfari surf lessons are for people of all ages! In this surf lesson, you will learn the proper techniques for paddling, positioning yourself on the board, standing, and wave selection. After the lesson, you will have the opportunity to use the board to practice the skills you learned for one more hour! It's never too late to learn something new!

Registration begins October 7 @ 6am.
There is a $10 refundable deposit due at registration.

Zip-Lining- November

Join us for our annual Zip Lining Trip in Ocala, FL! The zip lines total over a mile in distance and have been ranked the highest, longest, and fastest zip lines in Florida. Trip includes transportation, a 2 hour zip lining tour, and lunch!

Registration begins October 22 @ 6am.
There is a $10 refundable deposit due at registration.

Paintball Trip

Paintball Trip - January

A student favorite trip Paintball!! Join us as we go to Off The Wall Adventures for our annual paintball trip. Trip will include transportation, two hours of paintball, and dinner.

Registration Begins: January 7th @ 6am. There is a $10 refundable deposit due at registration.

Trip Date: January 23rd

Deep Sea Fishing

Deep Sea Fishing- February

It's time to test your fishing skills! Come with us for a half-day of deep sea fishing approximately 12 miles from Johns pass at Hubbard's Marina! The trip includes an hour boat ride out to sea, three hours of fishing time, and an hour boat ride back to shore. You have the opportunity to catch multiple types of fishing including Grey Snapper/Key West Grunts, Porgies, Black Seabass, Hogfish and more!

Registration Begins: January 28 @ 6am.
There is a $10 refundable deposit due at registration.

The St. John's River

St. Johns River and Blue Springs Tour- March

Spend your day kayaking during a guided tour to experience all that the Blue Springs has to offer!

Registration begins February 18th @ 6am.
There is a $10 refundable deposit due at registration.

Trip Date: March 4th 

Equipment Checkout

The Wellness Center’s equipment checkout program allows students to plan their own outdoor recreation adventures while staying on budget!

Equipment will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring your valid FSC ID to check out equipment at the wellness center front desk. To return camping gear, a second appointment will be made at the time of checkout to allow time to set up equipment for return inspection.

Although these services are free to students, charges will apply if equipment is damaged or lost.

Please call or stop by to be sure equipment is available and to arrange a time to discuss the safe use and care of the equipment.

Sporting equipment, tailgate games and hammocks may be checked out for 48 hours at a time. Camping equipment may be checked out for 72 hours. If an extension is needed, please contact the membership services coordinator.
