Move-Out Procedures

Spring 2024

Non-graduating residents are to check out of their housing within 24 hours of their last final. Communities will close on Thursday, May 2 at 1:00 PM for non-graduating residents.

Graduating residents need to be checked out by Sunday, May 5 at 1:00 PM.

24-Hour Quiet Hours

Quiet hours begin on Friday, April 25 at 9:00 PM and end on Thursday, May 2 at 1:00 PM.

Checkout Procedures

  1. Set up a check out time with your Resident Advisor (RA). Failure to comply with proper checkout procedures within your hall will result in an “Improper Checkout” fee of at least $50 being charged to your student account.Checkout will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
    1. Non-Graduating/ Non-Returning Students/ Returning Students
      • Checkout shifts will take place between Friday, April 25 at 8:00 AM and Thursday, May 2 at 1:00 PM with your RA.
      • If you plan to leave outside of this time, discuss alternatives with your RA.
    2. Graduating Students
      • May 4 between 8am and 5pm and May 5 between 8:00am and 1:00 PM with your RA.
      • If you plan to leave outside of this time, discuss alternatives with your RA.
  2. Before your RA arrives:
    1. Have all possessions out of your room. The College will not provide summer storage in rooms.
    2. Be sure room is swept clean.
    3. Empty desk drawers, dressers, and closets.
    4. Remove all wall and door decorations, i.e. poster putty, posters, tape, etc.
    5. Empty wastebaskets and place extra trash in dumpsters outside the building.
    6. Check to make sure none of your room furniture is missing. You will be charged for any missing, damaged or altered room furniture.
    7. Bathrooms need to be clear of items and cleaned.
    8. Return furniture to initial configuration at move-in.
  3. During your checkout appointment:
    1. Your RA will note damages to your room.
    2. Give your room key to your RA. Note: If you do not return your key(s) at checkout, you will be assessed a minimum charge of $105 on your student account for each key replaced.
      • Price is subject to your residential communities and the number of door locks that need to be changed.

Damages

Any damages to your room noted by your Resident Advisor (RA) at the time of check out, or by your Community Director after the halls close, will be billed to your student account. In cases where responsibility for common area damage or missing property cannot be specifically assigned, all students occupying the floor or building will be responsible for damage basis.

It is possible that a damage may be discovered following your checkout. Students will be able to appeal charges from fines or damages with the Office of Community Living by emailing our office at residencelife@flsouthern.edu. Appeals will only be taken till June 1.
