The Pillars of Greek Life

While each of our chapters are different, our fraternity and sorority community is bonded by the pillars of the Greek Life.

Academic Excellence

A primary purpose of the fraternity and sorority community is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement among its members.

Leadership

In the fraternity and sorority, you will be in “charge" of an event or a duty. Everyone in the fraternity and sorority is a leader, whether you’re an officer, on a committee, or just a participant.

Service

The Greek community provides services to more than just members of fraternities; being a part of the Greek community is time spent helping others in need.

Life-long Friendships

As a member of the Greek community, you will have the opportunity to meet students of various backgrounds with both similar and different interests.

“Going Greek” is a great way to meet new people on campus.

Along with friendships and fun, fraternities and sororities have a way of bringing out the best in their members.

Sororities

Alpha Chi Omega

“Real. Strong. Women.”

Alpha Chi Omega encourages individual acceptance and growth in both personal and professional aspects. They aim to help others and their members to reach their full potentials and become the best versions of themselves. They strive to provide a sisterhood, opportunities to serve, career connections, and an unbreakable bond of love, laughter, loyalty, and friendship.

Alpha Chi Omega philanthropic goals center around domestic violence awareness, education, and prevention. At Florida Southern, our chapter works with local philanthropies including the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and the Peace River Center. There are several traditions that our chapter keeps every year in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. Take Back the Night is an educational event featuring a speaker who comes to our campus to share the truth about domestic violence. After the speech, Lake Hollingsworth is lit by luminaries to honor survivors of domestic violence. Alpha Chi Omega has a wealth of events to be participated in that all center around strength and survival.

“I love Alpha Chi Omega because you have this amazing group of girls supporting you 100%. I always feel so welcome to talk about anything and everything.” -Paige Berberette, Alpha Chi Omega

Alpha Delta Pi

“Be The First.”

Alpha Delta Pi is more than its ritual and symbol, it is their way of life. Alpha Delta Pi was founded in 1851 as the first secret society for women at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Their motto, "We live for each other" expresses the true spirit of the sorority and each of their members strive to live by it each and every day. They also strive to be well-balanced women by following the four points of their diamond symbol. They accomplish this through strong character and personality, high educational standards, and well developed faith and loyalty.

Since 1979, Alpha Delta Pi has been committed to serving children and families impacted by Ronald McDonald House Charities programs, including the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room. Today, more than 347 Ronald McDonald Houses and 192 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in 60 countries help keep families with seriously ill or injured children together when they need it most.

Delta Delta Delta

“Let us steadfastly love one another.”

Delta Delta Delta, or Tri Delta, centers their philanthropy around the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. They’ve worked to create a perpetual bond of friendship that promises lifelong sisterhood and a network of support. Through innovative educational and leadership programs, Tri Delta provides its members with personal, professional and leadership development that will inspire them to live, learn and lead with purpose. President of Tri Delta, Jasmyn Coleman stated, “When we recruit new women into Tri Delta, we don’t have a specific mold. We look for women who have aspirations, determination, and the desire to, not only give back to our philanthropy, but to grow through their membership.” Sisters of Tri Delta aim to empower each other to have the courage to change the world and to stay true to who they are.

Tri Delta is known on campus for their “DHop” fundraiser, where the sisters come together and flip pancakes for students across campus. For just a few dollars, students enjoy authentic IHop pancakes and donate to a great cause. On a national level, Tri Delta has done more than their fair share of work for the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Tri Delta has raised over $45 million dollars and in 2014, they pledged to raise $60 million by 2024 -- the largest fundraising commitment in St. Jude’s history.

“I love Greek life because I’ve made so many wonderful connections with so many fantastic people and it allows me to help others through our philanthropy!” -Carolyn Hannigan, Tri Delta

“When I applied to Florida Southern, I knew I wanted to join an organization on campus, so I went through recruitment. I was welcomed with open arms by the women of Tri Delta and I can honestly say that joining was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have support and encouragement from all my sisters. I want incoming students to be confident in joining an organization, Tri Delta or not, because being a part of something greater than yourself is priceless.” - Jasmyn Coleman, President of Tri Delta

Gamma Phi Beta

“Love, Labor, Learning, Loyalty.”

Gamma Phi Beta is passionate about their philanthropic focus because they know today's girls face more challenges than ever, making the need for a safe place with supportive mentors even greater. They feel girls need women in their lives who can help them develop the skills to succeed in life. Gamma Phi Beta's philanthropic focus doesn't just work to address an existing challenge — they are trying to Build Strong Girls to proactively provide opportunities for long-term success by inspiring the leaders of tomorrow. In every community there are ways for chapters to provide girls the support they need to bolster their ability to believe in themselves and understand their value and potential.

Moonball is Gamma Phi Beta’s signature philanthropy event, where our chapter hosts a kickball to raise funds for Girls on the Run. Moonball provides a healthy activity for participants, while allowing our members to serve as mentors and leaders in their communities.

“My favorite part of Greek Life is how close knit the whole Panhellenic community is! I know I will always have a support system in my sorority and my sisters will always be there for me.” -Allison Tracey, Gamma Phi Beta

Kappa Delta

“Let us strive for that which is Honorable, Beautiful, and Highest.”

Kappa Delta works to provide experiences that build the confidence of its members and inspire their sisters to active leaders. Their values include truth, honor, and duty, which they believe foster true and lasting friendships. They accept their members for who they are and challenge them to develop into the women that they dream of becoming.

Kappa Delta works directly with the Girl Scouts of America, helping to build young girls of courage, confidence, and character. With common values and a commitment to leadership development, Kappa Delta and Girl Scouts are sisters at heart, working together on self-esteem workshops, International Girls Day celebrations, and anti-bullying workshops. The sorority has also created their own initiative called the Confidence Coalition. This is an alliance committed to promoting self-confidence in girls and women so that they may feel empowered to overcome social barriers and be inspired to reach their greatest potential. It is an international movement that enables women and girls to stand up to peer pressure and media stereotypes, say no to risky behavior and abusive relationships, and put an end to relational aggression, such as bullying – on the playground and in the office.

Zeta Tau Alpha

"Seek the Noblest."

Zeta Tau Alpha sisters are encouraged to seek greatness, understanding, purpose, sisterhood and nobility throughout their daily lives. They state that their goal is to connect members through a close bond of sisterhood and to build up a purer and nobler womanhood in the world. This womanhood is made of many individual women and it celebrates the uniqueness each sister brings.

Zeta is known to “Think Pink” when it comes to their philanthropy. ZTA’s philanthropic mission is breast cancer awareness and education through partnerships with the American Cancer Society, the National Football League, and Bright Pink. Think Pink is the umbrella term for all of  ZTA’s philanthropic pursuits, including fundraising, awareness events, and education through the Brighten Up Educational Workshop

Fraternities

Alpha Gamma Rho

"Making Better Men."

Alpha Gamma Rho is an agriculture and biology-focused fraternity, focused on making strong networking connections and working towards a better and greater future. AGR is one of the more selective fraternities, as only those majoring in agriculture, biology, or food and fiber science are eligible to rush. They also look for those with future-forward goals and high work ethic. They work closely with the Talbot House in Lakeland, a homeless shelter meant to rehabilitate those struggling with addiction. At FSC, you can find the men in our chapter selling handmade soap throughout the year in order to raise funds for their philanthropy.

“I love the friendships I have formed in Alpha Gamma Rho. I have made life-long buddies who I know will always support me and challenge me to be the best person I can be.” -Tyler Knerr, Alpha Gamma Rho

Lambda Chi Alpha

"Naught Without Labor."

Lambda Chi Alpha is a group dedicated to becoming the best versions of themselves. In order to achieve this, they abide by five pillars; equal membership, timeless leadership, inclusion, total health, and strength through service. They believe true leadership is achieved through service and sacrifice, and every member is given an equal opportunity to become that leader. They aim to become what they consider to be the ideal man; someone who pursues respect for all, supports those around them to make a positive impact, and who encompasses loyalty, duty, service, and honor. They work closely with Feeding America, an organization dedicated to domestic hunger relief.

“What I appreciate the most is the networking. I have gotten more internship interviews because I’m a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha. I’ve met some incredible people through Lambda Chi Alpha and had some incredible opportunities.” -Garrett Bennett, Lambda Chi Alpha

Pi Kappa Phi

"Exceptional Leaders. Uncommon Opportunities."

Pi Kappa Phi prides themselves on being exceptional leaders who have a passion for service. They encourage innovation, accountability, and achievement. To the men of Pi Kappa Phi, it is important to continually strive to be better, aim higher, and dream bigger. This immense drive is what led to the creation of The Ability Experience, the fraternity’s philanthropy. The Ability Experience is an initiative that works to change the perception of disabled members of our community. Members use their shared experiences in order to support those with disabilities. This is important in order to foster community and promote understanding.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon

"Together we Rise Above."

Through friendship, scholarship, leadership, and service, SAE finds men with impeccable character and helps them achieve their full potential, letting them rise up to face every challenge placed before them—today and tomorrow. SAE works to create true gentlemen, described by the author of “The True Gentleman,” John Walter Wayland as a, “man whose conduct proceeds from goodwill and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity… a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.” FSC’s chapter of SAE works closely with the Children’s Miracle Network, an organization that works to provide funding for children’s hospitals across North America.

“I found a great group of guys in Sigma Alpha Epsilon that were so dedicated to philanthropy and involved in the Children’s Miracle Network. They were all so welcoming, open-minded, and supportive. It felt like the best thing in the world to find a group like that.” -Les Englehart, Sigma Alpha Epsilon

Sigma Chi

"Expect More."

Brothers of Sigma Chi pride themselves on being the most philanthropic Greek organization in the world. They are dedicated to their philanthropy with the Huntsman Cancer Institute, pledging  $10 million last year to women’s cancer research. Current President of FSC’s chapter, Max Girard, had the pleasure of visiting this institution in Salt Lake City, Utah and stated, “It was life-changing seeing all the amazing work being done there.” The institution was founded by John Huntsman, a former brother of Sigma Chi.

They recruit brothers based on the Jordan Standard, declared by founder Issac M. Jordan. The standards include, being a man of good character, a student of fair ability with ambitious purposes. They look for those with a congenial disposition, possession of good morals, a high sense of honor, and a deep sense of personal responsibility. Sigma Chi is a true brotherhood, encouraging its members to take those values and work to improve them.

“We are all so close, there’s no cliques. Everyone loves everyone, which is hard to find… Being a Sigma Chi is lifelong and our alumni really help us in life.” -Max Girard, President of Sigma Chi

Theta Chi

"Resolute Men."

Theta Chi describes itself as one of the more diverse Greek organizations, having members from all walks of life. Through their diverse culture, brothers are heavily involved in all aspects of campus life through different member interests. Our chapter finds that this diversity provides an entertaining social schedule that brings about new surprises each day. Their mission is to take undergraduates entering college life and turn them into inspiring, intelligent, and well rounded members of the community. They do not try to change their members to fit a mold but rather take their best qualities and help them flourish. Brothers of Theta Chi work closely with the USO- specifically with their Operation Military Red. Theta Chi chapters compete to raise the most money for the USO and their programming.

The Greek Village

The partnership between Florida Southern College and national organizations to provide Greek housing on campus is a rich tradition and provides engagement for fraternity and sorority members in a supportive campus community.
