About the Youth Ministry Degree

Develop a strategy for fulfilling your life's purpose.

Florida Southern College's BA in Religion with a Concentration in Youth Ministry will challenge you to think deeply and critically about Biblical and theological questions of faith, tradition, reason, and religious identity — and their application in youth ministry settings. Built on the solid foundation of FSC's Religion curriculum, this concentration adds a practical focus on teaching and learning theories for youth ministry, its leadership, and its administration, culminating in a semester-long internship that puts your training directly to work.

Program Details

Through critical engagement with Biblical, theological, and religious concepts, you will develop an understanding of religious faith and how it engages and transforms culture, history, and the human experience. The Youth Ministry concentration builds on FSC's core Religion curriculum — spanning Biblical studies, Christian theology, non-Christian religious traditions, ethics, and the history of religion — by critically applying that foundation in the youth ministry context.

Concentration coursework develops your understanding of teaching and learning theories specific to youth ministry, alongside its leadership and administrative dimensions. The program places a strong emphasis on engaged learning throughout, with student-guided discussions, seminars, in-class presentations, and research opportunities woven into every course.

The concentration culminates in a semester-long onsite internship, providing direct, supervised experience in a youth ministry setting before graduation.

Core areas of study include:

  • Biblical studies (Old and New Testament)
  • Christian theology and ethics
  • Non-Christian religious traditions
  • History and philosophy of religion
  • Teaching and learning theory for youth ministry
  • Youth ministry leadership and administration
  • Semester-long onsite internship

Youth Ministry students are part of FSC's broader religion community and are eligible for induction into Theta Alpha Kappa, the national honor society for religious studies and theology.

Two signature annual events bring outstanding scholars and thinkers to campus: the Warren W. Willis Lecture in Religion and the Biblical Symposium, offering students the opportunity to engage with leading voices in theology and biblical studies.

Many students are also involved in service organizations both on and off campus, extending their ministry formation beyond the classroom into the broader community.
