Data Analytics is the use of raw data to improve performance and make informed decisions, and it applies to virtually every field, from business and healthcare to sports, science, and education.

FSC's Data Analytics curriculum builds a rigorous foundation in quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, and computational methods, equipping you with the tools to make sense of complex datasets across any industry. Coursework spans subjects including advanced analytics, machine learning, neural networks, differential equations, biostatistics, and the history of mathematics, giving you both the technical depth and the broader mathematical context that sets strong analysts apart. You'll also gain hands-on experience in data visualization, report generation, and data processing, the practical skills employers look for in entry-level analysts and graduate programs alike.

Up-to-date computer laboratories support hands-on learning throughout the program, and FSC's low student-faculty ratio means you'll have access to independent study opportunities on any mathematical topic that interests you.

For students who want to accelerate their credentials, all FSC students become eligible for early admission to the Florida Southern 4+1 MBA program at the end of their junior year, adding a graduate business degree in just one additional year.

Core areas of study include:

  • Advanced analytics and statistical modeling
  • Machine learning (neural networks, random forests, Naïve Bayes)
  • Differential equations
  • Biostatistics
  • Computational methods and coding
  • Data visualization and report generation
  • Data processing and management
  • Graph theory and analysis
  • Applied mathematics
  • Data-driven research methods

Spotlight: MAT 4100 Advanced Analytics In MAT 4100 Advanced Analytics, you'll use real-world datasets to build and analyze models such as neural networks, random forests, and Naïve Bayes, honing your statistical and machine learning skills in ways that directly apply to today's most in-demand data roles.

Data Analytics students at FSC begin their journey together. All first-year students are placed in a learning community with fellow math majors, a structured environment designed to help students persist in their studies through problem-based, integrative, and collaborative learning. These early relationships often become the foundation for research partnerships, study groups, and friendships that last well beyond graduation.

Beyond the first year, students can get involved in FSC's competitive mathematics community through the SCUDEM Challenge, a Differential Equations Modeling Challenge hosted by SIMIODE. FSC students have presented alongside peers from institutions across the country and had their work accepted for publication in peer-reviewed mathematics journals.

Outcomes and Careers in Data Analytics

Due to the growing relevance of technology, big data, and economic efficiency across all industries, expert data analysts are increasingly in demand, and FSC graduates are well positioned to pursue lucrative careers across a remarkable range of fields.
