FSC's graphic design curriculum follows two tracks: print design and digital design. All students complete both, ensuring a well-rounded command of the full discipline.

BA in Graphic Design
The Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design certifies the completion of major study in the visual arts as an integral part of a general liberal arts degree program. With more than 50 percent of coursework in areas outside art, including the humanities, social sciences, and physical sciences, the BA is designed for students who want to develop strong design skills within a broad intellectual foundation.

BFA in Graphic Design
The Bachelor of Fine Arts provides comprehensive training in art and design, balancing theory and practice across both print and web design tracks. Supported by a broad education in art history and contemporary art alongside a liberal arts foundation, the BFA develops technical competence, aesthetic judgment, and a strong commitment to artistic quality. Throughout the program, students demonstrate critical thinking, technical abilities, communication skills, and learn to collaborate effectively with peers and professors.

The BFA culminates in a senior thesis exhibition and critique, giving graduates a finished body of work that demonstrates their growth and vision as designers. Graduates are prepared both to enter competitive graduate programs in art and design and to pursue professional careers in commercial design and advertising.

Both degrees ground students in art history and drawing before advancing into innovative software, technology, and studio practice. Small class sizes mean your professors work with you individually on every project, developing the strong working relationships and personalized feedback that accelerate growth.

Graphic Design Minor
FSC offers two 20-credit Graphic Design minors for students majoring in other disciplines who want to develop foundational design skills. Both minors share a common core: Design Fundamentals, Drawing I, Intro to Digital Photography, and Typography and Layout, before diverging into a specialization. The Print Emphasis minor culminates in Advanced Print Design, while the Web Emphasis minor focuses on Web Design. Both provide a practical, portfolio-building introduction to the discipline without the full commitment of a major.

Core areas of study include:

  • Print design
  • Digital and web design
  • Typography
  • Video art and multimedia
  • Drawing and studio foundations
  • Art history
  • Software and design technology
  • Professional portfolio development

Graphic Design students at FSC are part of a vibrant creative community with access to state-of-the-art facilities, collaborative studio spaces, and regular opportunities to showcase their work. FSC fosters a culture where art students across every major work collectively together, building the kind of cross-disciplinary creative community that reflects the real world of design.

Get involved with Kappa Pi, the international art honor society, or AIGA (the American Institute of Graphic Arts), the professional association for design, where you can connect with working designers, access resources, and build your professional network before graduation.

Outcomes and Careers in Graphic Design

FSC graphic design graduates enter the workforce with a professional-level portfolio, mastery of industry-standard software, and real project experience across print and digital media. Within six months of graduating, 98.6% of FSC students are employed or in graduate school.

Graphic Designer

The most direct path from an FSC Graphic Design degree, working in-house at a company or at a design agency to create visual communications across print, digital, and multimedia channels. FSC's dual print and web curriculum ensures you are prepared for the full range of what employers expect from entry-level designers.

Brand and Identity Designer

Organizations of every size depend on designers who can develop and maintain a cohesive visual identity. FSC students gain direct experience in this area through internships with local businesses, designing logos, branding materials, and marketing assets for real clients.

Web and Digital Designer

As digital experiences become the primary way organizations connect with their audiences, skilled web and digital designers are increasingly in demand. FSC's digital design track and software training prepare you for roles in UX, UI, and digital content creation across industries.

Art Director

Art directors guide the visual direction of advertising campaigns, publications, and media productions. FSC's combination of design fundamentals, studio practice, and real-world project experience builds the creative judgment and leadership skills that art director roles require.
