How to Accept Your Loans
Ready to Finalize Your Loans?
If you've decided to use federal loans as part of your aid, here's exactly how to accept them. These steps happen after you submit your enrollment deposit. Your Student Status page will show you which items apply to you; this page walks you through how to complete them.
Complete Verification
If your FAFSA is selected for verification, your Student Status page will list what to submit. Complete the appropriate worksheet and return it to Florida Southern with any supporting documents.

Accept Your Federal Direct Loans
First-time borrowers, complete these steps at studentaid.gov:
- Log in with your FSA ID (create one if you don't have it yet).
- Complete Entrance Counseling for your Direct Student Loan.
- Complete, sign, and submit your Master Promissory Note (MPN), selecting Subsidized/Unsubsidized.
Once complete, your loans will be finalized on your account.

Apply for a Parent PLUS Loan
Parents of dependent students may borrow a PLUS loan to cover the balance after other aid is applied, along with other education-related costs. PLUS loans are credit-based, and the credit application must be completed each year. Contact the Financial Aid Office to determine borrowing limits.
First-time parent borrowers, at studentaid.gov:
- Log in with YOUR FSA ID (the parent's), not your student's.
- Select Request a PLUS Loan and complete the Parent PLUS Application, including the credit check.
- If approved, complete, sign, and submit the Master Promissory Note (MPN).
Returning parent borrowers with a previously approved PLUS loan, at studentaid.gov:
- Log in with YOUR (the parent's) FSA ID, not your student's. If you need one, create it at studentaid.gov.
- Select Request a PLUS Loan, then Parent PLUS, and complete the Parent PLUS Application, including the credit check. Sign and submit.
- You do not need to complete a new Master Promissory Note (MPN).
Decline or Reduce Your Loans
Federal loans are optional. Every student who files the FAFSA is offered them, but you can accept, reduce, or decline. To decline or request a lower amount, email Financial Aid.
