Billing and Payments

Managing the financial side of college is easier with a little planning, and our team is here to help. The Office of Student Accounts supports you with tuition payments and other account matters throughout your time at Florida Southern.

Paying for Your Education

A little planning goes a long way, and our team is here to help. You are billed by semester and are responsible for all charges by the stated due dates.

Your bill becomes available in the FSC Portal ahead of each term's due date. Review it for accuracy, choose how you would like to pay, and settle your balance by the due date. New students are sent FSC Portal log-in information before bills are posted.

Understanding Your Bill

Your statement shows your charges for the term, any pending financial aid, and your balance due. Here is a quick look at the charges families ask about most.

Tuition and Fees Covers your courses and campus services. Some programs carry additional charges beyond standard tuition and fees, such as lab, studio, clinical, or course-specific fees tied to program requirements. You can see your full breakdown on your bill in the FSC Portal.
Health Insurance All full-time students are automatically enrolled in the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan, so this charge is added to your bill. If you already have your own coverage, you can waive it by the deadline and it will be removed. See Student Health Insurance for the cost and waiver details.
First Day the Wright Way Course Materials Your required books and digital materials are ready on or before the first day of class. Physical books are available to rent and digital materials are delivered through Canvas, all at a lower cost than buying each title separately. You will get reminders to return any rented books at the end of the term. Learn about First Day the Wright Way

Depending on your situation, you may also see:

Housing and Meal Plan If you live on campus, your statement includes your housing charge for your assigned residence hall and the cost of your meal plan.
Parking Permit If you bring a car to campus, you will see a parking permit charge on your bill. Apply for your permit through the FSC Portal so your bill is accurate and you can settle it without leaving a balance, then pick up your decal at the Campus Safety and Security Office, open 24/7. See Safety and Security for details.

For questions about the financial aid shown on your statement, contact the Office of Financial Aid. You will need to accept your aid awards and satisfy any outstanding requirements in the FSC Portal for those awards to appear on your account and reduce your balance.

Steps to Pay Your Bill

Florida Prepaid College Plan

The payment option you choose, restricted or unrestricted, determines the amount deducted from your term bill. Any balance not covered by Florida Prepaid or another approved source is due by the date on your bill.

For questions about your Florida Prepaid account, sign in at myfloridaprepaid.com or call Florida Prepaid at 1.800.552.4723. For questions about how FSC bills your plan, call Student Accounts at 863.680.3933.

Many states and financial institutions offer 529 college savings plans to help families save for education, and you can use yours toward your bill at Florida Southern. Each plan has its own rules for how funds are used and how payments are sent to the College. Check with your plan provider about how and when to request a release of funds and what they need from you, such as an electronic copy of your bill from the FSC Portal. If your provider mails payment to the College, it should be sent to:

Florida Southern College
Attn: Student Accounts
111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive
Lakeland, Florida 33801-5698

If you are a service member, veteran, or eligible dependent, Florida Southern can help you apply your education benefits toward your costs. Learn what we need to certify your enrollment and how your benefits interact with your bill.

If you have received a scholarship from an organization outside Florida Southern, it can be applied toward your balance. Forward your award letter or confirmation email, including the amount, to financialaid@flsouthern.edu so we can credit it to your account.

Keep in mind that outside scholarship funds may arrive after your payment due date, if you have questions about how a pending scholarship affects what you owe, contact Financial Aid before paying.

If your employer reimburses tuition, Florida Southern can work with you to time your payment around your reimbursement. To get started, complete the Employer Tuition Reimbursement form, available through the FSC Portal.

Payment Plans and Additional Funding

If you wish to spread payments out or apply aid toward your balance, the following options can help you settle your bill.

Florida Southern offers interest-free payment plans through Nelnet Campus Commerce, so you or an authorized payer can pay tuition, fees, and housing in installments. These are not loans, and no credit check is required.

Plans are available for fall spring, and will include a small nonrefundable enrollment fee. You will re-enroll each term.

To enroll, any prior-term balance must be cleared first, and enrollment opens before your bill is available. If you enroll after the start date, any earlier installments are due at enrollment, but there is no late enrollment fee; a late fee applies only if a scheduled installment is missed.

If a parent, guardian, or sponsor will pay on your behalf, you will first add them as an authorized payer in Nelnet. Set up your own Nelnet profile, then add your payer. Once added, they can create a payment plan or make a payment toward your balance. Returning payers can sign in to Nelnet directly; new payers create a username and password to get started.

Federal Direct loans and Federal Direct Parent PLUS loans can be applied toward your balance. To have your loan reflected on your account, complete the required steps, including entrance counseling and signing your Master Promissory Note. See Finalizing Your Aid

For loan types, borrowing limits, and repayment terms, see Loan Options.

Refunds for Credit Balances

You can view your account balance at any time through the FSC Portal. To request a refund of a credit balance, email your request to studentaccts@flsouthern.edu. All check requests are verified through a review process before mailing or pick up.

Federal aid that exceeds your cost of attendance is refunded within fourteen days of disbursement to your account, in compliance with federal regulations.

You may choose to keep a credit of your excess federal aid on your account by completing and signing a Title IV Form, which remains on file throughout your enrollment at FSC.

Download the Title IV Form

When you graduate or withdraw, credit balances are refunded along with any returnable deposits.

If a mailed refund check is returned as undeliverable or is left uncashed, a due diligence process is performed. After five years, unclaimed funds over $25 are sent to the State of Florida's Unclaimed Property program.

Past-Due Accounts and Collections

Once you are no longer enrolled with Florida Southern College, any unpaid balance on your account is subject to assignment to a collection agency. All costs and expenses, including collection fees up to 33% of the debt and any attorney's fees, become your responsibility and are added to the balance due.
