Faith-Based Scholarships

Scholarships Rooted in Faith and Service

Florida Southern's United Methodist heritage runs deep, and so does our commitment to students who lead lives of faith and service. These scholarships support students pursuing careers in Christian ministry, education, and healthcare, and honor those who bring their faith to campus. We welcome and support students from every denomination and faith tradition.

The Advancing the Flame Matching Scholarship encourages United Methodist students to pursue an outstanding education at Florida Southern. Through the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation's "Dollars for Scholars" matching program, your home church's gift can be multiplied.

Here's how the match works: if your home church sends $1,000 on your behalf to the UMHEF and you are selected in the lottery, the UMHEF matches it, sending $2,000 to Florida Southern. FSC then matches $1,000 of that gift, for a total of $3,000. The funds must come from your church, its scholarship committee, or individuals within the congregation, not from family or relatives. Have your church send a letter about its participation in "Dollars for Scholars" to the Church Relations Office.

FSC matches up to $1,000 per year (up to $3,000 total through the church and UMHEF match). Apply by April 1.

$2,000 per year

Awarded to first-year and transfer students preparing for careers in Christian education, ministry of music, or youth ministry.

$2,000 per year

Awarded to children of United Methodist ministers. To be considered, submit a letter on United Methodist Church letterhead identifying your name and your qualifying parent's name and title, for verification. Recipients are not eligible for Advancing the Flame awards.

$3,000 to $5,000 per year

Awarded to candidates in a formal ministerial track. Pre-ministerial candidates in the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church may receive up to $5,000; all other Methodist candidates in a formal ministerial track may receive up to $3,000.
