Builds your community.
Your RA plans social and educational events throughout the year so you can meet the people on your floor and in your building. Movie nights, hall dinners, study breaks, and hall-wide traditions all start here.
When you move into your residence hall, you won't be figuring things out alone. Every residential section at Florida Southern has a Resident Advisor, a fellow student who lives right there with you and whose job is to help you settle in, meet people, and find your way.
Your RA was in your shoes not long ago. They know what the first few weeks feel like.
Your RA plans social and educational events throughout the year so you can meet the people on your floor and in your building. Movie nights, hall dinners, study breaks, and hall-wide traditions all start here.
RAs have regular one-on-one conversations with the students in their area, called MOCTalks, to get to know you and see how you're doing. It's not a formality. It's how small problems get caught before they become big ones.
Your RA will help you and your roommate set expectations early through your Roommate Agreement, and if a disagreement comes up later, they can sit down and help you work through it.
Every residential building has an RA on call in the evenings and on weekends. Locked out of your room at midnight? Something's wrong, and you're not sure who to call? That's what the on-call RA is for.
RAs keep an eye on the physical condition of their areas, report repairs to the right staff, and run fire drills and health and safety inspections so your space stays safe and comfortable.
Every RA is on hand during move-in and move-out to help you get settled and get packed up.
You'll meet your RA when you move in. They live in your building, and their door is one of the first ones you'll get to know.
For help in the evenings, on weekends, or during a break, every residential building has an RA on call. Weekday on-call hours run from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., and weekend shifts run from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday. Professional Residence Life staff are also on call for more serious concerns.
Resident Advisors are chosen for their ability to connect with people and their commitment to the students in their care. Around 80 students serve as RAs each year, a mix of returning advisors and first-time ones, drawn from across majors, athletics, Greek life, and student organizations.
RAs complete training before students arrive and are supported year-round by professional Residence Life staff.

Current Florida Southern students can apply to serve as a Resident Advisor. Applications open in the fall semester through Engage, and RAs receive a housing stipend and a single room.
