Internship Planning

An internship is one of the most important things you'll do at Florida Southern.

Why FSC Emphasizes Internships

An internship is one of the most important things you'll do at Florida Southern. It's where you test what you've learned, build a professional network, and find out whether the career you've been planning actually fits.

This page walks through how to find an internship, how to register for one, and who to talk to at every step.

Before You Begin

What counts as an internship

The job title matters less than the experience. Co-ops, field studies, research assistantships, clinical placements, part-time jobs in your field, and structured volunteer experiences can all qualify, paid or unpaid, for academic credit or for the experience alone.

What you need to be eligible

  • At least 12 completed credits at Florida Southern College
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Approval from your Department Chair or Internship Coordinator

Some programs set additional requirements, and your Internship Coordinator confirms what applies to you. Final eligibility is theirs to determine, along with whether your internship can carry credit.

How to Secure an Internship

  1. 1

Every program has a faculty member who oversees internships in that field, and they're the person who knows which employers Florida Southern has worked with, which deadlines matter, and what your application needs.

Reach out at least eight weeks ahead — many internships fill months in advance.

  2. 2

Your coordinator can point you toward the right employers and platforms for your field. Career Services also maintains job boards and discipline-specific resources on the Jobs and Internships page.

  3. 3

Submit your resume, cover letter, and anything else the employer or your program requires. Career Services can help you prepare them, with templates, samples by major, and interview practice on the Application Materials and Skills page.

  4. 4

Register your internship. Once you've been offered the role, complete the required paperwork through Career Services, including anything needed to earn academic credit.

Find Your Internship Coordinator

Some departments have a dedicated Internship Coordinator. Others work with several faculty members across the department.

If you don't see your program listed, contact Dr. Roxanne Back at rback@flsouthern.edu or your faculty advisor.
