Dance Auditions
Dance Auditions at Florida Southern
Students auditioning for the BFA Dance Performance and Choreography and BA Dance Studies programs will be evaluated for acceptance into the program, as well as scholarship consideration.
Auditions are required for entry into the FSC's Dance programs, including the minor. However, please note that while an audition is necessary for the minor, scholarships are not available for minors.

Audition Criteria
This live audition is for students who have already applied to Florida Southern College and who intend to major/minor in Dance Studies or Dance Performance & Choreography. All students intending to major or minor in Dance must meet the Florida Southern College academic requirements for admission and must complete the Audition Registration Form.
Audition Requirements
All prospective dance majors and minors are required to attend one of Florida Southern College’s scheduled audition days. The audition will be conducted by two or three of our current Dance Program faculty. Only under special circumstances may students submit a video recorded audition. Please email danceauditions@flsouthern.edu for more information.
- The audition will consist of a short ballet barre, ballet center combination, contemporary modern technique phrase work and an improvisation exercise to demonstrate creative and analytical skills.
- Following the audition students applying for the BFA and BA programs will perform a 90 second solo to demonstrate performance ability and have a short individual interview with evaluating faculty.
Attire for this audition should be neat, clean, and allow for clear observation. Appropriate attire for the audition includes correct dance wear (leotard/tights) and footwear (ballet slippers and bare feet). Students may be asked to do pointe work at the discretion of the instructor. Hair should be secured off the face and no large jewelry.
What to Submit
Upload the following with your audition registration form:
Letter of Recommendation
One letter from a current or past dance instructor. If your recommender prefers to send it directly, they can email it to danceauditions@flsouthern.edu.
Photos
Three photos, taken with a phone or digital camera. Make sure each one is clear. Do not submit performance photos in costume and makeup.
- Tendu in Second Position. You must be wearing fitted dance attire and your entire body must be in the image. No feet only photos.
- First Arabesque en L'air. You must be wearing fitted dance attire and your entire body must be in the image.
- Headshot. Does not need to be professional quality.
