Other Admission Options
A Path for Every Applicant
Most students apply to Florida Southern through our standard first-year or transfer process. But some paths come with a few specific requirements. If one of these describes you, you'll find everything you need below.
Gateway to Success (Conditional Admission)
Gateway to Success is Florida Southern's conditional admission path. It helps students transition into college with a lighter first-term course load and added structure, then move into full-time status once they have demonstrated success.
How it works:
- Your first-term course load is capped at 10 credit hours.
- You may be asked to follow a prescribed course plan while in the program.
- Earn a 3.0 GPA or higher in your first term, and you may be considered for traditional, full-time status.
- If you do not meet the 3.0 threshold, you may still be considered for full-time admission with approval from the Dean of Student Success.
Important details:
- Students in the program are not eligible for institutional aid and are billed at the standard full-time tuition rate.
- Enrollment deposits for the program are non-refundable.
- A personal interview may be required.
What you will submit:
- Proof of graduation from a regionally accredited high school, such as a final transcript
- SAT or ACT scores
- An academic letter of recommendation
- The signed Gateway to Success Agreement Form
Deferred Admission
Already admitted but need to start later? You may petition to defer your enrollment for up to one academic year from your original entry term.
To request a deferral:
- Have an enrollment deposit on file.
- Submit a letter of intent to the Director of Admissions explaining your reason for deferring and your plans during the interim period.
What to know:
- Deferrals will not be approved if you enroll at another institution before attending Florida Southern.
- Within 30 days of your deferral notification, submit a deferral deposit equal to your original enrollment deposit. If you do not, your application will be canceled. This non-refundable deposit is credited toward your first-semester bill.
- Federal, state, and need-based financial aid are not automatically deferred. Contact the Financial Aid Office to have your aid considered for the new enrollment term.
Prefer to start fresh? You may also reapply for a future term and follow that term's enrollment timeline.
Non-Degree and Transient Students
Are you enrolled at another college or university and want to take a course at Florida Southern to transfer back to your home institution? You can enroll as a transient, non-degree student without applying for a degree program.
How it works:
- Obtain a transient permission form from your home institution. The form must list the specific FSC courses you have been approved to take and be signed by the appropriate official at your home institution.
- Submit the completed form to the Office of Admissions.
- Enrollment is space-available, and some courses may require departmental approval.
Taking a course as a transient student does not require a full application, and it does not commit you to a degree at Florida Southern. If you later decide to pursue an FSC degree, you will apply through our standard first-year or transfer process.
Check Your Application Status
Once you’ve submitted your application, keep your journey on track through our Status Portal. There, you can upload materials, see what’s still needed, and check your admission status anytime.
