School of Architecture

Most architecture students study Frank Lloyd Wright. Ours have class in his buildings.

About the School of Architecture

Florida Southern's campus holds thirteen Wright-designed structures, the largest single-site collection of his work anywhere, and the whole of it is a National Historic Landmark. The School of Architecture is housed inside one of them.

That is not a backdrop. Students here study Wright's principles from inside the rooms where he tested them, then work outward into the broader history of architecture, and they learn preservation and adaptive reuse as a working skill rather than a specialization. A campus that must be maintained to landmark standard teaches things a lecture cannot.

By the Numbers

One degree, five years, and a campus that is also the curriculum.

FSC Facts & Figures
  • 13 Wright Structures

The largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture in the world, and a National Historic Landmark.

  • 5 Year Professional Degree

The Bachelor of Architecture is a professional degree, not a pre-professional one, so licensure doesn't require a master's.

  • 162 Credit Hours

Including 34 hours of WRIGHT Foundations and a year-three study abroad experience.

  • 1.5 Miles of Esplanades

Wright's covered walkways connect most of the campus, and students study them as examples of built work.

Where You Study

Class meets in the Lucius Pond Ordway Building, one of Wright's originals. Around it sit the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel, the Danforth Chapel, the Water Dome, and the Usonian House, completed in 2013 from Wright's original plans.

Students learn hand drawing and drafting as a foundation before moving quickly to the tools of the profession today: three-dimensional modeling and rendering, LiDAR laser scanning, drone-based data capture, 3D printing, and CNC fabrication. Documenting a historic Wright building is one integration of learning these tools in our immersive learning environment.

The Bachelor of Architecture

The School of Architecture offers one degree. The program page carries curriculum, admission requirements, coursework, careers, student life, and the full NAAB and accreditation documents

The Bachelor of Architecture

Accreditation Status

The Bachelor of Architecture is a candidate for accreditation with the National Architectural Accrediting Board, the sole agency authorized to accredit professional architecture degrees in the United States. NAAB grants candidacy to new programs with a viable plan for initial accreditation.

Florida Southern's NAAB-approved plan projects initial accreditation in Spring 2031. Because NAAB accreditation applies to degrees awarded up to two years before it is granted, the first class covered is expected to be the Class of 2030.

Go Beyond the Blueprint

Five years, one professional degree, and a campus that is also the syllabus. Start with a visit, a question, or an application.
