New H1N1 Vaccination Opportunities for Polk County
Health Department to Hold Free H1N1 Vaccine Events
This Weekend December 5-6

The Polk County Health Department has added two free events for this weekend for residents to receive protection from the H1N1 swine flu.

  • December 5 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) – St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 501 Carter Road, Lakeland, FL
  • December 6 (1 p.m. to 7 p.m).– City of Auburndale Senior Center, 119 W. Park Street, Auburndale, FL

“Our county has done well to reach out to high risk groups over the last month despite the national vaccine supply delays,” said Dr. Daniel Haight, Director of the Polk County Health Department. “Now that more vaccine has arrived, we urge anyone who is in a high risk category to obtain this protection against the H1N1 swine flu.”

“Although our emphasis remains on the national priority groups, our vaccination efforts can now begin to meet the needs of others seeking protection from the swine flu,” added Dr. Haight. The national priority groups include:

  • Pregnant women
  • Children and young people ages 6 months to 24 years of age
  • Caregivers and family members of infants and babies younger than 6 months of age
  • Health-care workers
  • Adults ages 25-64 with medical conditions that place them at higher risk for flu complications

Other options for Polk County residents include:

  • Checking with your personal medical provider as many of them are preparing plans to make the vaccine more available.
  • Calling (863) 519-7510 to schedule a time during the week to receive a free vaccine at one of five Polk County Health Department sites in Lakeland, Auburndale, Lake Wales, Haines City or Bartow.
