An audition is required of all students applying as music majors.
This audition is for students who have already applied to and have been accepted academically to Florida Southern College or are pending an admission decision.
Music scholarships are awarded annually based on student talent, department need, and each student’s total financial package. Auditions for talent-based music scholarships are held throughout the year before your intended enrollment at Florida Southern.

Talent-based music scholarships are also available to non-majors who wish to participate in music ensembles at Florida Southern.
Auditions will be conducted live via Zoom. If these dates don't fit your schedule, a video audition submission option is available.

Auditions for music majors include: Major scales and two (2) pieces of contrasting styles (one slow and one fast). Music selections may be chosen from all-state auditions, solo and ensemble events, etc.
Non-majors who wish to audition will be provided with audition music for ensemble scholarships.
Auditions for music majors include two (2) solo pieces and demonstration of technical skills through the playing of major scales.
* There may be some exceptions to the selections, for example, you may want audition with a jazz selection and a classical selection, or a modern fingerstyle piece, arrangement etc. Contact Dr. Moore for further details.
Students should pick one (1) etude or piece each for marimba, snare drum, and timpani.
Greater priority will be given to students who can play at least two of the three instruments-marimba, snare drum and timpani.

Music management and non-music management majors wishing to audition for ensemble scholarships may choose from the attached links for audition piece requirements:
Auditions include two (2) memorized pieces representing two of the following style periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Modern. Students may be asked to sight-read and demonstrate basic technical skills through the playing of major scales, two octaves.
Music majors must perform two (2) contrasting pieces or movements from the standard repertory, scales required by 11th -12th grade all-state auditions, and sight reading.
Non-majors who wish to audition for ensemble scholarships must perform one piece or movement from the standard repertory and sight-reading.
Auditions for music majors include two (2) contrasting art songs (memorized) representing two of the following languages: Italian, German, French, or English.
Non-majors who wish to audition for ensemble scholarships may perform solo pieces from classical repertoire or Broadway musicals.
