This audition is for students who have already been accepted academically at Florida Southern College or who intend to complete their application to the College shortly.
Music scholarships are awarded annually based on student talent, department need, and each student’s total financial package. Auditions for talent-based music scholarships are held throughout the year before your intended enrollment at Florida Southern.
Scholarships are awarded to students planning to pursue majors in:
Talent-based music scholarships may also be available to non-majors who wish to participate in music ensembles at Florida Southern.
Live auditions are preferred; recorded auditions will be accepted under certain circumstances.
Auditions for music majors include major scales, sight-reading, and two pieces of contrasting styles (one fast, one slow). Music selections can be all-state audition material, solo and ensemble pieces, etc.
Non-majors who wish to audition will be provided with audition music for ensemble scholarships.
Students should pick one etude for Marimba, one for Snare drum and one for Timpani that best represents their ability level.
Greater priority will be given to students who can play at least two of the three instruments-marimba, snare drum and timpani.

Music majors must perform two contrasting movements from the standard repertory, scales required by the 11-12 grade all-state auditions, and sight-reading.
Non-majors who wish to audition for ensemble scholarships must perform one piece or movement from the standard repertory and sight-reading.
Auditions include two memorized compositions representing at least two of the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Modern. Students may be asked to sight-read and demonstrate technical skills through the playing of major scales over two octaves.
Auditions for music majors include two memorized classical songs, including one performed in English and one performed in Italian, German, or French.
Non-majors who wish to audition for ensemble scholarships may perform solo pieces from classical repertoire or Broadway musicals.
