Religion has played a significant role in our lives since the beginning of time. Along with marking important life events, it encourages us to think critically about the meaning of life and our role in the world.
Your B.A. in Religion will provide you with a balanced and challenging curriculum. Along with courses in the traditional areas of Biblical studies and Christian theology, where you'll examine sacred texts, rituals, and ethics within the Christian tradition, you'll also be encouraged to round out your coursework with minors in art, language, and philosophy or even pursue a double major. You’ll be prepared for further theological study as well as church-related work and a variety of other careers.
Not only are graduates accepted to the top seminaries and graduate programs in religion in the nation, they’re also awarded the most prestigious scholarships.
Our religion majors can take advantage of our study abroad options in Italy, Turkey, Greece, England, and Israel.
As a religion major, move beyond lectures with student-directed research and in-class presentations, panel discussions, and student simulations, such as The Trial of Galileo.
Complement your coursework with unique electives such as Jesus in Film, Gender Interpretation and the Biblical Tradition, Christianity and the Arts, or Dialogues in Science and Religion.

Teaching is the heart of the matter — a process of transforming students and professors into persons possessing knowledge, wisdom, critical reason, and moral judgment, all proved in the life of care for others. Using enthusiasm and humor, moving around, calling students by name, encouraging discussion, teaching compels students to engage in the classroom, department lounge, and my office. Teaching is forming relationships with students, as we discover new ways of life and being in the world.
My time at Florida Southern has not only prepared me for, but actually given me an advantage in, the academically rigorous and competitive environment of graduate school. Rather than beginning with the typical introductory course work at graduate school, I was able to begin immediately with advanced, upper-level seminars and research programs.
