Florida Southern College recognizes that often strong academic talent and potential may not be readily reflected in standardized test scores.
Students who perform well inside the classroom and demonstrate strong involvement and character outside of it are frequently just as likely to be successful in college. As a result, Florida Southern is pleased to offer a test-optional policy effective for students applying to enter in either the Spring 2021 or Fall 2021 semesters. This will provide applicants an opportunity to apply for admissions consideration without submitting standardized test scores if they wish.
As an alternative to submitting test scores for consideration, applicants should instead submit a written response. In this essay, applicants are encouraged to share their perspective on their academic strengths, personal and professional development, unique skills and talents, and the overall impact they believe they can make as a part of the Florida Southern College community.
We will provide equal consideration for students who choose not to submit standardized test scores as it does for those who do. In both cases the review process is a holistic one, with a student’s high school transcript being the most important part of any evaluation. Additional factors that are a part of consideration for admission at Florida Southern include recommendations, co-curricular activities, community involvement, writing ability, and other academic and personal achievements.
The option to apply under our test-optional policy is designed for students who perform well in the classroom but whose academic strength is not reflected in their standardized test scores. We recommend students who fit the profile described below consider applying under the test-optional policy:
