Refreshed Career Services Space Better Serves Students

The Peter C. Golotko '90 MBA '96 Office of Career Services is officially open!

The newly renovated suite, located on the first floor of the Carlisle Rodgers Building, was officially opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Helping to celebrate (from left to right) were Mr. Jason Rodda '02, trustee, Mr. John Grundig, vice president of enrollment management, Dr. Lauren Albaum, executive director of career services, and President of Florida Southern College Dr. Anne B. Kerr. Representing Mr. Golotko were his daughters, Ms. Erin Golotko MBA' 19 and Ms. Allison Golotko. Representing the FSC student body was SGA President Carter Webb.

Thanks to the generosity of Peter C. Golotko '90 MBA '96, partner, president, and chief executive officer of CPS Investment Advisors, as well as Northwestern Mutual, AgAmerica, and the Rogers Family Foundation, FSC's Career Services team can provide even more outstanding support to students in their pursuit of successful careers and post-graduate work.

"This particular space supports nearly 60 percent of our students as we work to ensure that FSC graduates are in the best position to secure their future success," said Dr. Kerr.

Career Services assists students and alums with career exploration, job/ and internship searching, interview preparation, the graduate school process, and much more.

Dedicated interview suites for interview preparation with staff members via state-of-the-art virtual technology ensure students can practice their interview skills and learn how to best respond to specific questions.

"With virtual interviews on the rise," explained Dr. Kerr, "Students now have access to private, undisturbed spaces, outfitted with requisite technology to conduct their interviews in a professional environment."

Employers will also have access to the spaces to host on-site interviews, providing unparalleled access to emerging talent.

Additionally, an expanded resume writing and analyzing program joins a dedicated space for professional headshots and a clothing closet so that students can put their best look forward.

Subject matter experts are also available to help choose the right path for each individual. Mentoring begins during students' first year, allowing for a robust professional development curriculum. Specific areas addressed include networking opportunities, professional development guides, career coaching, and professional examination prep classes.

SGA President Carter Webb notes, "I discovered my internship next summer because of the wonderful people here at the career center. I am sure this space will create more opportunities for our students, and I am so grateful."

Under the direction of Executive Director Dr. Lauren Albaum, The Princeton Review's 2023 edition of its "Best Colleges" guide showcases FSC's Career Services Department, ranking it No. 24 in the entire nation.

"Our holistic approach to career development, starting from acceptance to Florida Southern College, ensures each student has individualized support to help them explore careers, build competencies, and ultimately secure a meaningful career aligned with their professional aspirations," explained Dr. Albaum.
