The FSC men’s swimming team took home the Sunshine State Conference championship for the fifth time in program history, holding off Nova Southeastern in the final race of the event.

A school-record and SSC Championship best time in the 400-freestyle relay of 2 minutes, 25.16 seconds by Kyle Micallef, Elder Oliveira, Brandon Dyck and Matteo Zampese secured the title for the Mocs.

Florida Southern had six individual champions with Ludovico Viberti (100, 200 breaststroke), Dyck (100 backstroke), Miguel Bernotti (200 butterfly), Zampese (200 individual medley), Micallef (50 freestyle) collecting first-place finishes. The Mocs also picked up another relay win in the 400 medley relay.

Micallef was the lone NCAA Division II Swimming Championships qualifier, but the Mocs are hoping to have more when the official field is announced on Thursday. The NCAA Championships begin on March 9 in Greensboro, N.C.

Overall, the men had 19 podium finishes.

This is the first time since the 2015-16 season that the Mocs won the SSC men’s title.

The women’s swim team took third behind a standout performance from Jazzy Hoffmann who broke two Florida Southern records, including a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle.

This is the best finish for the women since the 2018-19 season.

The men’s win was the first SSC title under head coach Andy Robins.
