Dan Kirk, the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Florida Southern College was recently appointed to the State of Florida’s Board of Pharmacy by Governor Ron DeSantis. Kirk is one of seven members of the Board of Pharmacy, and one of 25 overall appointments to various state boards, that the Governor made on that day.
“This appointment is important because decisions are made that affect the people of Florida,” said Kirk about his assignment. “Now I can actually play a part in that process and not just talk about what could and should be done in certain situations.”
None of the appointments will be official until the Florida Senate votes to confirm them. Kirk’s four-year term will begin immediately upon confirmation, and expire on October 31, 2026.
“This is an awesome opportunity for me to gain valuable experience being on this board,” Kirk continued. “This appointment will help me learn more about how health decisions are made, which will ultimately help Florida Southern and our students.”
Kirk came to Florida Southern in February of 2021, and is responsible for the overall strength and conditioning of all Florida Southern athletic programs, though he works primarily with the volleyball, men's soccer, women's and men’s basketball, women’s and men’s swimming, baseball, softball, men's tennis, men's golf, and women's lacrosse teams.
Prior to Florida Southern, Kirk spent three years working as an Athletic Performance Coach at the University of Vermont. There he was responsible for the strength and conditioning programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, track & field and cross country. While at UVM, he also spent time as the Assistant Director of High Performance for the USA Softball Women’s National Team.
Kirk holds a bachelor’s degree in Sports and Fitness from the University of Central Florida (2013). While at UCF, he was an intern in the Strength and Conditioning Department for one year. In 2016, Kirk received his Master’s Degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science from the University of Tampa. While at UT, he worked with the men's and women's soccer teams, men's lacrosse team, and women's basketball team. He was a Graduate Assistant at Tampa for two years before going to Vermont. Additionally, Kirk interned at the University of Florida, working with men’s and women’s swimming, track & field, and women’s lacrosse.
Kirk is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and has his Corrective Exercise Specialist certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
