Florida Southern’s Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) honor society organized a fundraiser to support an initiative by Lakeland’s Black & Brew restaurants to provide prepared lunches to healthcare workers at Lakeland Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 29.

With the closing of campus, members of FSC’s chapter of AED were unable to maintain their planned schedule of activities and decided instead to show support for local medical providers by helping to fund the delivery of boxed lunches. The national organization includes students from throughout the campus community who are interested in careers as physicians, dentists, veterinarians, physical therapists, or within other areas of the healthcare field.

“It’s a very meaningful way to thank some of the heroes helping to keep our community safe, and a gesture that keeps our service-oriented students actively involved in helping the community when they can’t be here in person,” said Dr. Nancy Morvillo, professor and chair of FSC’s Department of Biology and pre-medical studies coordinator.

Others who wish to contribute to this local initiative to purchase meals for frontline medical workers or first responders can visit blackandbrew.com and click the "Order Now" link. Fill out the online form to nominate a medical team or group of first responders as recipients of this special boxed-lunch program.
