Professor of Accounting Lynn Clements has been presented one of the highest honors from the state’s most prestigious organization of accounting professionals.

Dr. Clements was presented the 2017 Outstanding Educator Award on Wednesday by the Florida Institute of CPAs at its annual Accounting and Business Show in Fort Lauderdale. The award recognizes full-time college accounting educators distinguished for excellence in teaching and for national prominence in the accounting profession. The award extends profession-wide recognition to the recipient and promotes role models in academia. Recipients are chosen by the Educational Foundation Committee of FICPA in a highly competitive process.

Dr. Clements, who holds the Dorotha C. Tanner Chair in Ethics in Business and Economics, has been a member of the faculty of FSC since 1984. In addition to being a CPA, she is certified as a Chartered Global Management Accountant by the American Institute of CPAs and holds a certification from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Her research focuses on fraud detection and ethics. Dr. Clements also directs the master of accountancy (MAcc) program at FSC, directs the Institute for Accounting Excellence at FSC and is the editor of the Journal of Accounting and Free Enterprise, which publishes research on important issues in accounting as they relate to free enterprise.

Dr. Clements said, “It’s an honor to be recognized by the FICPA Education Foundation, and I’d like to thank Florida Southern for allowing me to teach, mentor students and create exciting opportunities for the accounting program. I’d also like to thank my colleagues who have made this program so outstanding. Finally, I’d like to thank my family for their love and wisdom over the years and supporting me in using my God-given abilities.”

Two other members of the FSC accounting faculty previously have won the Outstanding Educator Award from FICPA. Professor Celina Jozsi was presented the award in 2010, and Dr. Will Quilliam was given the award the following year. No other college in Florida has as high a percentage of its faculty who have won the award.

Dean James Fenton of the Barney Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise at FSC said, “Dr. Lynn Clements deserves this award for consistently delivering the highest quality of accounting education. She has been working at her craft as an excellent teacher-scholar in accounting for more than 30 years. Dr. Clements is the very essence of being student-centered, and her students consistently say that about her. She is a true professional in her field.”
