Florida Southern College presents its celebrated annual Christmas gala on Saturday, December 12. In addition to two live performances, the Christmas Gala again will delight audiences throughout West Central Florida with a Christmas Eve broadcast on WEDU PBS in Tampa Bay.

Highly anticipated each year, the Christmas Gala is produced by the college’s Department of Music as part of its Festival of Fine Arts and has become a beloved holiday tradition throughout the community. This year’s edition, Home for the Holidays, offers a wonder-filled array of musical favorites performed by Department of Music students and faculty, joined by special guests from FSC’s musical theatre program, the Florida Dance Theatre, and the Lakeland Senior High School Gala Singers.

“We are delighted to offer the gift of festive holiday music to the community through the presentation of our annual Christmas Gala in live performance and through the broadcast medium,” states Professor Paula Parsché, chair of the Department of Music. “Our students, faculty, and guest artists have worked hard to bring the best of the season’s sacred and secular music to the stage in a vibrant musical production designed to appeal to everyone, young and old alike.”

Lakeland production company NFocus will film the live performances and produce an hour-long televised special of the Christmas Gala for broadcast on WEDU PBS in Tampa Bay. The event will air Christmas Eve at 9 p.m. with repeat broadcasts throughout the following week. Last year’s broadcast reached more than 700,000 families throughout West Central Florida.

Additionally, WEDU will air at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 17, as part of its weekly arts and culture program Arts Plus, “The Making of the Christmas Gala,” featuring interviews with some of the students and faculty members involved in the production of this annual holiday musicale.

Tickets are available for the two live performances at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, in the Branscomb Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students.
