Energy industry magnate, financier, and philanthropist T. Boone Pickens will address an audience of future leaders on September 22 in the George Jenkins Field House at Florida Southern College.

Pickens, who built one of the nation’s largest independent natural gas oil companies and pioneered the idea of corporate responsibility to shareholders, will present his address on energy, the environment, and leadership to an audience of over 300 undergraduate and graduate business and science students and invited guests. A longtime advocate of energy independence and conservation, Pickens launched a self-funded, $100-million grassroots campaign to end America’s dependence on imported OPEC oil in 2008, known as The Pickens Plan.

“Mr. Pickens is a legendary and influential business leader who exemplifies the American spirit of entrepreneurship,” remarked Florida Southern College President Anne Kerr. “He has achieved outstanding heights of success and changed the face of corporate America while advocating for policies that support best practices in environmental sustainability. He is an admired champion of American entrepreneurship and a powerful advocate for responsible energy practices, and I am delighted for our students to have this valuable opportunity.”

This event is by invitation only and is sponsored by Saddle Creek Logistics Services of Lakeland. Members of the media are welcome to attend, and Mr. Pickens will be available for questions.

Members of the FSC community are invited and may pick up a ticket from the Provost Office. For more information, contact Linda Metts.
