Carrie Risher, DNP
Assistant Professor of Nursing
“I believe that it is my role as an instructor to provide an environment that is conducive to adult learning. A part of establishing such an environment is making a connection with my students through conversation and relationship building. Meeting with my students one to one helps me to establish their learning styles and to assess their goals and aspirations. Providing a blended teaching style works best as does diverse teaching aids and technology.”
I was born in Hampton South Carolina to a family that moved to Lakeland Florida in 1966. I attended public schools and later went on to graduate from Polk State College with an AS degree in Nursing. I graduated from the RN-BSN degree completion program at Florida Southern College in 2001, I graduated from the School of Education at the University of South Florida in 2006 with a Masters Degree in Adult Education. In 2013 I completed a Master's Degree in Nursing Science and a Doctorate Degree in Healthcare Systems Leadership in 2016. I was employed by Lakeland Regional Health for 25 years where I served as an Education Specialist, Manager of the Education Department, Clinical Nurse Specialist-Stroke Program Coordinator and direct care nurse. I am an Associate Professor and RN-BSN Degree Completion Program Coordinator at Florida Southern College.
I enjoy attending Church, working with youth and young people, cooking and listening to good music.
