Carrie Risher, DNP

Assistant Professor of Nursing
RN to BSN Program Coordinator

Sharing real-life experiences with nursing students spark a flame of inquiry that perpetuates the drive and desire to gain more knowledge and to apply the knowledge learned in healthcare settings. Engaging students in the art and science of nursing whether in a face-to-face setting, virtual learning environment, or a combination of the two, utilization of pedagogical strategies is essential to teaching theoretical concepts and development of clinical reasoning.

Biography

It is my role as an instructor to provide an environment that is conducive to learning. A part of establishing such an environment is developing a connection with the student through listening, conversations, and relationship building. I think it is important to know how each individual student learns best. I want to always be that professor who supports their learning needs, providing guidance as they move forward toward their learning goals, and aspirations.

I am a proud graduate from Florida Southern College School of Nursing, a graduate of the School of Education at the University of South Florida, and a graduate of Chamberlain College of Nursing with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. I have practiced nursing for 28 years, and I have worked in academia since 2005. I joined the faculty at Florida Southern College in the summer of 2016. I am the mother of three, and the grandmother of five. I have seven god-children, and I enjoy music, cooking, and singing.

Interests

I enjoy attending Church, working with youth and young people, cooking and listening to good music.
