Deborah Cantero, DNP, ARNP, FNP-C

Assistant Professor of Nursing and FNP Program Coordinator

My philosophy of teaching and nursing education places the student at the very center of all activity. Curriculum guidelines, course objectives, teaching strategies, instructional delivery techniques, and evaluation methods must consistently strive to promote knowledge enhancement and learning outcome achievement for all students. I believe the student should be treated with respect and dignity in an engaged learning environment, valuing the continuum of care from disease management to wellness prevention for all health care environments.

I am a native Floridian, born and raised in the Tampa/Plant City area. I am a nationally board-certified, doctorally-prepared family nurse practitioner (FNP) with over 19 years experience practicing as a FNP across the lifespan in community, primary care, and convenient care settings. In addition to clinical practice, I have enjoyed teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs in higher education for 13 years. Prior to becoming a FNP, I practiced as a registered nurse for 17 years in acute/critical care and home health settings.

My scholarly interest focuses on interprofessional education and measuring the impact of interprofessional clinical immersion experiences on learning and patient care outcomes.

In my free time, I enjoy relaxing at the beach, spending time with my husband and family, and exploring the beautiful state of Florida.
