My teaching philosophy is rooted in the realization that I am responsible for the depth of learning that occurs in my classes, and that student learning occurs best when students are comfortable asking questions. I believe it is critical that students ask, "Why"? Knowing how is one thing; knowing 'why' is a higher level of learning that I aspire to facilitate for my students.

Dr. Hasson is a graduate of Florida Southern College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Financial and Personnel Management). While a student at FSC, he met his wife, Dr. Julie Hasson, a fellow graduate of FSC who is also a member of FSC's faculty, in the School of Education.
After attempting a career in sales and failing spectacularly, Dr. Hasson returned to FSC to begin his accounting education. Upon completing accounting course work and taking the CPA exam, he began his professional career as an auditor with Deloitte in Orlando and ultimately in Tampa, for a total of eight years. Dr. Hasson then served in a variety of leadership accounting and finance roles, primarily in the banking, insurance and software industries over the next 16 years, including roles as Controller, Director of Financial Reporting, CFO and VP of Finance. His professional experiences include leading multiple implementations of accounting information systems, integrating the accounting and financial reporting functions of acquired businesses, hiring and developing accounting and finance teams and co-founding a start-up software business. In 2011, Dr. Hasson began a six year journey toward becoming an accounting professor by first earning his Master of Accountancy degree from the University of South Florida in 2013, followed by a Doctor of Business Administration degree from the University of Florida in 2017.
Dr. Hasson strives to bring a combination of professional experiences in accounting, financial reporting, accounting information systems and auditing into his classrooms. He also seeks to build enthusiasm and interest in both the accounting program at FSC, and in the accounting profession. Dr. Hasson teaches undergraduate courses in foundations of financial accounting, foundations of managerial accounting and accounting information systems, and the accounting research course in the Master of Accountancy program. His research interests include behavioral accounting and auditing, auditor professional skepticism, and financial accounting and disclosure.
