Derrel Bryan, Ed.D.

Assistant Professor of Education

I believe in building relationships with students in order to establish an atmosphere of mutual respect and integrity represents the cornerstone of learning. Every student brings unique personality and character traits to the classroom. No matter the instructional delivery model (virtual classroom, face to face or hybrid), my role is to provide a safe environment within which students feel challenged and encouraged to express authentic and innovative ideas as a measure of learning.

Biography

Most of my career in education has been within the public school arena, specifically K-12. Over 42 years I held teaching positions (Social Sciences and Vocational), coaching (high school baseball and football) and served in many administrative roles ( District administrator, Principal and Superintendent of Schools; Fla and Ga.).

Upon retirement from public education, I worked as an administrative consultant for Highland County schools for three years with the specific responsibility of evaluating principals and assistant principals.

Higher Ed experience included adjunct work for University of South Fla. South Fla. State College and Fla. Southern College. (2009-2019)

I accepted a full-time position with Fla. Southern College in March 2019, and continue in that assignment teaching online courses in the Educational Leadership Ed. D. program. In addition, I chair ten Doctoral committees for dissertation students.

My wife, Marci, and I recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We have two children, Derren and Darci, and five grandchildren.
