As an educator at FSC, I train candidates for the realities of front line teaching and administrative experience so they can guide their career mission and vision.”
Dr. Aponte is a 35 year veteran in the field of education in Florida. She taught English and journalism in several local high schools and at the University of South Florida Summer Migrant Institute. Additionally, Dr. Aponte spent eight years as a guidance resource specialist assisting students and their parents in exploring college and career opportunities. She spent 10 years as a financial aid specialist in a post secondary technical college in Tampa, Florida. Meanwhile she was an adjunct professor in higher education for over eight years with undergraduates and teacher certification workshops. As an assistant professor at Florida Southern College, Dr. Aponte teaches Special Methods in Education, Reading and Writing in the Content Area, Teacher Certification workshops, ESOL related courses, graduate level courses in STEM education, and she also supervises Field Studies and Intern students.
Dr. Aponte has two adult children who serve in the U.S. Army, and while she was born in Alabama, she has lived her whole life in the Central Florida area and appreciates the history, culture, and amazing weather that Florida offers.

After my first year at Florida Southern, I have found that each course I teach provides opportunities for me and for my students to work on knowledge and skills I look forward to more specialized projects with students who are working towards degrees in education.
