Simmons Multicultural Center

Welcome to the Evett L. Simmons Center for Multicultural Appreciation

Global learning environment for students, expanding cultural knowledge and experiences. The Simmons Multicultural Center provides a wide variety of educational, developmental, and social programs for all students.

We provide a variety of quality support services, plan and drive educational and entertaining cultural awareness programs, and provide leadership opportunities through student involvement and service. These programs serve as a vehicle for the college community to learn about some of the many volunteer opportunities in the community and the many cultures that are a part of our Florida Southern College family. This includes targeting services for our international and minority students.

The Simmons Center sponsors programs during nationally recognized celebratory months, as well as other times during the year, to highlight the various cultures represented on campus.

Distance Education Policy for F-1 Students

Full-time students in the traditional undergraduate program are limited to a total of six online courses at Florida Southern. In addition to the restrictions above, students attending Florida Southern on an F-1 visa may not count more than one online course per semester toward program-of-study requirements. Undergraduate F-1 students must have a minimum of 8 credit hours per term in courses requiring a physical presence (“non-online”), for a minimum of twelve credits per semester. Graduate F-1 students must meet the credit hour requirements that pertain to the student’s program of study:

  • Nursing programs, a minimum of three credits per term in “non-online” courses, for a total minimum of six semester hours
  • Business and Accounting programs, a minimum of four credits per term in “non-online” courses, for a total minimum of eight semester hours
  • Education programs, a minimum of four credits per term in “non-online” courses, for a total minimum of eight semester hours.

For the purpose of this policy and in accordance with SEVP Governing Regulation 8 CFR 214.2(f)(6)(G), hybrid courses are considered “non-online”, as some portion of the course requires “the student's physical attendance for classes, examination or other purposes integral to completion of the class”.
