Group Therapy

Interested in Group Therapy?

In group therapy, not only do students receive tremendous understanding, support, and encouragement from others facing similar issues, but they also gain different perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints on those issues. It is a form of helping in which a small number of people come together under the guidance of a professionally trained therapist to help themselves and one another address mental health and other personal concerns. Talk to a clinician and ask about our group counseling program to get connected and learn more.

Available Groups for Fall 2021

Coping With Overwhelming Emotions

Feeling overwhelmed by distressing emotions can be scary and natively impact your life. One way we can work on these difficulties is through building distress tolerance. Distress tolerance involves building specific skills to cope with what feel like overwhelming emotions. These skills are also associated with Mindfulness techniques which helps individuals to be fully present, non-judgmental and accepting of life circumstances. The counseling center will be hosting a education seminar every Monday at 11:00 AM (each seminar will cover a different helpful topic).

Sitting Together

This groups provide basic instruction and consistent opportunity to practice meditation/mindfulness. Participants benefit from insight and support to establish mindful practice. This group will have a variety of different meditation and mindfulness activities that are unique each week. Participants are not required to attend every session. This group will be held in person at the FSC CC every Wednesday at 11:00 AM.

Healthy Habits

A holistic group that focuses on overall wellness by addressing key areas of self-care each week. This is a rolling group which allows for individuals to come throughout the semester to gain new insight and follow up on previous topics. This allows students to grow with the group, potentially become peer advocates for new members joining, and the rotation of topics allows individuals to join throughout the semester without feeling lost. This group will be held in person at the FSC CC every Thursday at 11:00 AM.

Making Florida Southern Home

Having difficulty adjusting to college life, making friends or missing home? This is a support group for students transitioning into college. Meet with others who are experiencing college for the first time and connecting with the campus community. This group will be held in person at the FSC CC every Thursday at 3:00 PM.

Building Healthy Relationships

Even the most successful relationships have conflict. It’s not the presence of the conflict but rather how it’s managed that predicts success or failure. This group will allow you to learn about building and maintaining healthy intimate relationships. You’ll be able to share own experiences and receive feedback with the goal of identifying functional vs dysfunctional patters. Some of the content reviewed will be based of the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. This group will be held in person at the FSC CC every Wednesday at 2:00 PM.
