Interested in a health-related field and looking to gain hands-on experience before graduation? This medical shadowing international internship is the perfect blend between internship and study abroad! Expect to shadow European doctors for 30+ hours while living abroad for 10 days! All participants will also earn 1 credit of PHP 3988 Professional Shadowing. This opportunity is open to all majors across all years!

Additional Details

Students will have the opportunity to shadow various physicians and specialties at Hospital de Sant Pau i Santa Tecla in Tarragona, Spain. Prior to departure, students will rank their top shadowing preferences and will be matched with physicians based on this ranking system. Each student should expect to rotate through two different hospital specialties. In addition to the 5 days of shadowing, select shadowing opportunities will be required in US hospitals prior to departure. This will provide an opportunity for students to compare and contrast US and international healthcare systems. All students will receive 1 credits for PHP 3988 Professional Shadowing.

During the trip, the weekdays will consist mainly of hospital shadowing and evening class (2 days). Three weekend days are built into the trip, one of which will be a full-day excursion to Barcelona. The other two weekend days are free days for students to reflect on their experiences and explore Tarragona, Spain with their peers.

Residence: We will be staying in a hotel or apartment in Tarragona, Spain. Expect double occupancy rooms.

Meals: Breakfast will be provided each morning in the residence. As a group, we will also participate in multiple group dinners and at least 1 group lunch. Students will be provided a per diem for all other lunches and dinners.
