Education majors benefit from limited class sizes, ensuring that they have the opportunity to engage with their professors. All of our education faculty members hold a master’s degree or higher and bring an average of 20 years of teaching and administrative experience to the classroom. This combination of academic and real-world knowledge creates a rich learning environment for students: not only do they learn best practices from their books, but that knowledge is enhanced by the real-life lessons shared by their professors.
School of Education offers the only education degree program in the country that is fully infused with SMART technology.
These technologies, such as interactive white boards and document cameras, have become standard in numerous school districts. FSC students gain unparalleled experience with these cutting-edge educational tools, learning how to integrate them into their curriculum design and teaching strategies to create vibrant and participatory lessons for students.
All education majors, in addition to completing internships off campus, work closely with children in the on-campus pre-school, as well as those enrolled in The Roberts Academy, a K-6 school for talented children with dyslexia. This intensive daily contact with young learners makes for an unparalleled experience. Teaching is a job you learn by doing, and at Florida Southern College that is truly the case.
Professional Development School Partnership
The School of Education has partnered with local schools as Professional Development School Partners designed to prepare future teachers, provide professional development for current educators, encourage joint school-college faculty analysis of education related issues, and promote learning of all K-12 students.
Partnerships will serve as a strong bridge supporting teacher educator preparation, academic and clinical experiences, and theory and practice. This intentional, closely supervised, and highly engaged learning opportunity for future educators will serve as a model program demonstrating the School of Education’s commitment to the preparation of outstanding future educators by embracing their engagement in the local school community.
