Wellness Center › Waterfront

Ever wished you could learn how to water ski or sail?

Florida Southern’s Waterfront program provides students with the unique opportunity to enjoy all that Florida has to offer.

Located on Lake Hollingsworth, directly across from the Wellness Center, you will find our boathouse—which serves as a home base for our Waterfront activities. At the boathouse, you can checkout kayaks, paddle boats, and even a sailboat.

One of the most popular recreational lakes in Polk County, Lake Hollingsworth is relatively small. With an average depth of 4 feet, it is the ideal place to give water sports a try.

Other activities on the lake include fishing, bird watching, picnicking, biking, and a very busy three-mile paved walking path.

Waterfront Incentive Programs

Kayak to the KeysKayak to the Keys. The goal of this program is to encourage alternative means of physical activity. Students paddle kayaks or paddle boats around Lake Hollingsworth to log “miles”. These miles are tracked on a scaled chart of the distance from Polk County to Key West. Most weekly goals can be achieved in one or two paddle sessions per week. This program lasts for 3 weeks and finishers are rewarded with a program t-shirt.

Valentine's PaddleValentine's Paddle. Students receive an entry for every paddle session at the waterfront during the week preceding Valentine’s day. At the end of the week, a drawing is held for a restaurant gift card that could be used toward a Valentine dinner.

Waterfront Distance ChallengeWaterfront Distance Challenge. How far can you paddle in 3 weeks? Paddle sessions are logged for participants during this 3 week program in the spring semester. Three levels of achievement are available for participants. The level achieved is noted on their reward shirt. Are you a calm water, rough water, or whitewater paddler?
