Although Study Abroad seems like a costly venture, students at a private college like Florida Southern may discover they can study abroad for virtually the same cost as a summer or semester at FSC. In some cases, you may actually pay less to study abroad!

When deciding on a study abroad program, be sure to compare prices and above all, take into account what is included in the price. Be sure to calculate round-trip airfare, books, and other personal expenses in your estimated costs. When shopping around for a semester or year-long program, you will find a multitude of programs for a certain location; make sure you are aware of what is included in the price and be sure to find the most affordable program that meets your needs. The Study Abroad Office can help you in this process.

For the price of summer options, click on the program links or contact the program coordinator. Costs typically include tuition for six hours of academic credit, room and board, some or most meals and round-trip airfare. For semester/year-long option prices, contact the Study Abroad Office.

Financial Aid

Much of your financial aid package from Florida Southern College may be available for semester/year-long study abroad. Be sure to check with the Financial Aid Office at 863.680.4140 to see how your financial aid package would be affected by a semester or year abroad.

Some financial aid issues you need to consider:

• You must register for the equivalent of at least 12 semester hours abroad in order to receive financial aid.
• While much of your state and federal funding for financial aid probably will qualify, financial aid that originates from Florida Southern sources (athletic scholarships, ROTC scholarships, Academic Merit Awards) probably will not be applied to study abroad.

Be sure to check with summer program coordinators for any additional funding that may be available. FSC Study Abroad is sometimes able to offer additional study abroad scholarships; these are limited by availability, and information on these will be posted on the Web site and e-mailed to Summer Option participants when it is available.
