SPRING BREAK
First-Year Advice:
One of the great resources we have in
the Student Solutions Center is a computerized Learning Style Assessment.
Please encourage your student to stop by and take the brief assessment. Once
completed, one of our staff members will discuss ways to utilize this
information and create a personal study plan. ItŐs a great way to gain new
insights and also pick up a few ideas for test preparation.
Second-Year Insight:
ItŐs hard to believe that registration
for fall classes will soon arrive! Group advising takes place March 6.
This is an important meeting where students will learn information about their
academic department, the experiences of their peers, and other important
information to help enhance their FSC experience. ItŐs also at this time when students
will sign-up for a 1:1 meeting with their advisor. To help speed the process,
make sure your student checks for any holds on his/her account – business
and accountability.
From the FSC Career Center:
ŇMocÓ Interview Day is this coming Wednesday, February 20th. As a reminder, students should be at the
Career Center at least 10 minutes prior to their interview time. Students
should be dressed professionally and have a resume ready, as this could be a
great connection for a future internship or full-time job.
As they head out for spring
break, students should take advantage of networks at home to connect with some
professionals in their field of study.
They many want to conduct an Informational
Interviews to learn more about their field of interest, or start checking
out possibilities for summer internships. We have a great handout in the Career
Center and on our website: www.flsouthern.edu/career
From the FSC Counseling Center:
Eating Disorders Screening. Many people, both men and women, engage in
some unhealthy behaviors around food or body image. Even though these
behaviors may not reach the level of an eating disorder, they can be harmful
and can lead to other more serious problems. Here are some practices that
can indicate an unhealthy attitude toward food, eating, and appearance:
One by one, these behaviors
may not seem too concerning. After all, donŐt we need to pay attention to
what we eat and how we look? The problems develop when health and fitness
take a back seat to appearance or become so all-consuming that they eclipse
other aspects of a well-rounded life. You may have noticed some of these
behaviors in your student. If so, encourage your student to participate
in our annual Eating Disorders Screening, Thursday, February 21, 9:00 am to
4:00 pm in the Counseling Center. It only takes a few minutes and can be
the start of a more positive approach to health and wellness.
From the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center:
Group Exercise Classes
á FIT BINGO Students can sign up with their Group ex instructor for a chance to GET FIT and win fun prizes. If youŐve got your first BINGO see Michele Cash for your water bottle and start working toward you fitness t-shirt. This challenge ends Friday, February 22.
