The Roberts Academy

Roberts Academy

The Roberts Academy of Lakeland, Florida, will open its doors to its first students in August, 2010. Designed as a transition school, the Academy will focus heavily on the Orton-Gillingham approach to learning to read in addition to all of the subjects found in a typical elementary curriculum. 1st through 4th Grades will initially be provided. The Orton-Gillingham method has proven to be highly successful with otherwise bright children who are experiencing dyslexia and other serious reading challenges. Class size will be limited and taught by teachers skilled in the Orton-Gillingham approach and assisted by highly skilled support staff and college students who are completing their undergraduate training. College students from the disciplines of art, music, physical education, the social and physical sciences, and foreign languages will provide challenging lessons appropriate to the developmental capabilities of the children.

For information on admission requirements and testing, tuition, or other areas of interest regarding the Academy, please contact the School of Education at Florida Southern College at the numbers identified under Contact Us.
