Florida Southern College student 
awarded scholarship

LAKELAND, Fla. (Aug. 23, 2004) - Florida Southern College senior Nicole E. Nagaro received a scholarship from the George Grier Kirkpatrick, Jr. Scholars Program. Administered by the Florida Independent College Fund (FICF), the program provides scholarships to students in financial need from the north central Florida counties. 

Nagaro, of Ocala, Fla., is majoring in sociology. After graduating, she plans to pursue her master's degree in social work or public health and work with families and communities. 

Senator George Grier Kirkpatrick, Jr. championed education in Florida. His efforts helped create many scholarships including the Minority Teachers Scholarships, Opportunity Scholarships, Step-Up Scholarships, Bright Futures, and scholarships from the FICF. His work has enabled tens of thousands of Florida students to build productive careers. The FICF created the Kirkpatrick Scholars Program to honor and continue Kirkpatrick's work.
