FSC theater troupe
performs
"The Threepenny Opera"
LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 30,
2004) - Florida Southern's theater department performs "The Threepenny
Opera" in the Loca Lee Buckner Theater on campus. Performances begin
at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-21 and Feb. 26-28; matinees start at 2:30 p.m.
Feb. 22 and 29. James F. Beck, theatre arts department chair, directs
the play.
The darkly comic masterpiece by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill was
first performed in Berlin in 1928. The play focuses on Macheath
(Mack the Knife), a notorious London bandit and womanizer whose
marriage to the boss's daughter brings a radical change to his way
of life. The musical score includes "Ballad of Mack the Knife,"
"Pirate Jenny," and "Solomon Song."
Tickets are $15. FSC students are admitted free. Non-FSC students
