James Quinton Rumph receives honorary degree at 
Florida Southern College commencement ceremony

LAKELAND, Fla. (Dec. 22, 2003) - James Quinton Rumph, retired Jacksonville attorney and trustee emeritus of Florida Southern College, received an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree during the college's commencement ceremony Saturday. Rumph was recognized for his career of service and generosity to the community and Florida Southern College. 

After attending Florida Southern in 1942-43, Rumph left to pursue naval training at the University of Miami and Northwestern University before serving as a naval officer in the Pacific during World War II. He graduated from the Mid-Shipman's School at Northwestern and earned his law degree from the University of Florida.

Rumph has been an active member of the Florida, Jacksonville, and American Bar Associations, as well as the Estate Planning Council. He has served as chairman of the Honorary Board of Governors of Methodist Hospital in Jacksonville, and as International Counselor and District Governor of the Lions Club. He has generously supported FSC, as well as other educational institutions and youth programs.
