FSC students attend
annual psychology education meeting
LAKELAND, Fla. (March
15, 2004) - Four Florida Southern students accompanied Dr. Patrick
Smith, psychology professor, to this year's Southeastern Psychological
Association (SEPA) meeting held in Atlanta March 10-13. This annual
meeting focused on undergraduate education and research in the field
of psychology.
The students presented posters at the conference entitled "Indexing
deception using a condition suppression technique" and "Effects
of examiner skepticism on concealing information." Student attendees
included the following:
Mercedes Baker, a senior psychology and criminology major, is
currently the Psi Chi (psychology honor society) president. She
plans to pursue school psychology programs after gaining a year
of work experience following graduation. She is the daughter of
Francis Baker and Laurncille Baker of Lakeland, Fla.
Kyle Freedman, a junior psychology major and current secretary
of Psi Chi, presented his first poster at the meeting. He is the
son of Martin Freedman of Spring Hill, Fla.
Kristen Lindberg, a senior psychology and religion major and
historian of Psi Chi, presented her first poster at the meeting.
She plans to attend graduate school in the fall for counseling psychology.
She is the daughter of Barry and Phyllis Lindberg of Lakeland, Fla.
Jennifer Stuart, a senior psychology and education major and
member of Psi Chi, made a presentation at the meeting. She has been
accepted to a number of graduate programs in clinical, counseling
and school psychology as well as the law program at the University
of Florida. Her choice among these programs is still pending. She
is the daughter of Gary Turner of Springfield Mass. and Theresa
Chinchilla.
